Overview

Luminar is a mixed reality web browser with realtime lighting and reflections for enhanced viewing experiences. Users can browse the web, stream media, and cast from their desktop

Process

Luminar started off as a lighting prototype to try and get Unity lights to work in passthrough utilizing a custom shader:

With the addition of reflections, I created a demo for a mixed reality video player:

The prototype was well received on social media, so I decided to turn it into a fully functional web browsing app. I integrated the browser using Vuplex, and implemented some other settings and functionality such as a backlight, hand tracking, desktop streaming and more.
